Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a red oval shield with a point at the bottom thereon three green mountain peaks with white snow caps with the mountains on either side diminished in size, all superimposed in base by a bipartite stacked blue scroll inscribed with "CARE CUSTODY" on top fold and "DIGNITY RESPECT" on bottom fold in gold letters, overall and between the words is an erect gray key, wards to base; all below an arc in chief of gold concertina wire with four barbs.

Symbolism
The concertina wire represents the custody portion of the Battalion's operations.  The four barbs on the wire represent the four edicts of the Battalion:  Care and Custody with Dignity and Respect.  The red background is representative of the word "Colorado" from Spanish which represents the state of Colorado.  The stylized mountains, denoting the Rocky Mountains, are adapted from the previous distinctive unit insignia of the 220th Military Police Company.  The three peaks highlight loyalty, patience and respect.  The red sky and mountains together symbolize the dawn of a new day in future operations internationally for the United States Army.  The key represents the security mission of the unit's operations and the red shield with a gold inset border stands for the protection the Army National Guard provides at home and abroad.  The blue wavy bars allude to movement and the swiftness of action through pertinent training and readiness.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 17 November 2010.

Per fess debased Gules and Or, in chief below a demi-oval of concertina wire with four barbs of the last, three stylized mountain peaks, dexter and sinister mountains diminished, Vert capped Argent fimbriated of the second, in base two wavy barrulets Azure; overall below the concertina wire a key erect with wards to base of the fourth (Silver Gray).

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Colorado Army National Guard:  From a wreath Or and Gules, a fasces paleways Proper with ribbon of Red, White and Blue.
